CareVet’s DVM Mentorship Program pairs like-minded Veterinarians within the CareVet network to build clinical confidence, share experiences, and provide support in areas you are seeking guidance in. Our DVM Mentorship Program is custom to your experience, whether you are a new graduate, associate, or Veterinarian in a leadership position at your hospital.
Associate Head Start Program
The Associate Head Start Program provides new Veterinarians a fun, informal and safe space to learn new competencies that can be put into practice immediately. Veterinarians gain confidence through clinical and soft skill development, online and in the clinic. While this program can apply to any new associate, new graduates are introduced to a cohort of all new Veterinarians across the network, building community through collaboration.
Managing Veterinarian Development Program
The Managing Veterinarian Development Program was designed to equip new Managing Veterinarians and Medical Directors with the skills they need to be excellent team and business leaders as they transition into their new roles. We focus on building confidence, knowledge and leadership skills through custom resources and mentorship.
Clinical Skill Development
CareVet supports skill development through custom clinical training based on you and your hospital’s needs. Our customizable training programs are based on individual needs through on-demand or hands-on training. We provide support throughout the entire process, encompassing clinical training, facility & equipment resources, team training and onboarding support.
Meet our 2023 New Grad Cohort!
Dr. Rother is originally from Ardmore, Oklahoma, and attended Oklahoma State University for both his undergraduate degree and Veterinary School. He graduated from Veterinary School in 2023. In the veterinary field, Dr. Rother’s special interests include surgery, ultrasound, and cytology. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and pets. He is interested in heavy machinery, auto mechanics, and electrical skills. He also enjoys marksmanship, archery, and fishing, as well as gardening and landscaping.
Dr. Brunson grew up in Gilmer, Texas. Volunteering in clinics and working as a veterinary technician, being an active member in her local 4-H and FFA, and spending time with her personal dogs, cats, and horses growing up fostered her love for veterinary medicine. After graduating from Gilmer High School, she earned her Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M University. She graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2023. She has since returned home to East Texas and now lives in Longview with her husband, Josh, and her daughter. Her professional interests include small animal and equine internal medicine, imaging, and general wellness. Outside of work, her hobbies include visiting with family and friends, gardening, reading, and cheering on her daughter in sports and school.
Dr. Mashburn is a native of Montgomery, AL. She is proud to have been raised in her family's restaurant, the Capitol Oyster Bar. Her love for animals started as a young child with her passion for competitive horse riding. She joined us just after graduating from Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2023. She has obtained Fear Free Certification and strives to make your pet as calm and comfortable as possible during visits with us! Outside of the clinic, she also enjoys practicing large animal veterinary medicine and spending time with her four-legged babies, Hash and Miller.
Dr. Hodkiewicz grew up in Lake Geneva and is extremely excited to be back in her community. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Marquette University in Biomedical Science and Psychology. Dr. Hodkiweicz continued her education at the University of Wisconsin, graduating from the School of Veterinary Medicine in 2023. Her special interests include feline medicine, shelter medicine, including fostering tons of kittens, and soft tissue surgery. She can’t wait to establish lasting relationships with her clients and help take care of their amazing pets!
Dr. Sheehan grew up in a small town in northwestern Wisconsin called Chetek on a small hobby farm that consisted of cats, dogs, horses, chickens, peacocks, turkeys, and goats. That’s where his passion for animals began and drove him to become a veterinarian. He attended UW-River Falls for his undergraduate degree, where he studied Biomedical sciences and chemistry. He also met his now fiancée, Hailey, in River Falls. He then moved on to vet school at UW-Madison and is a proud alumnus of UW-Madison’s veterinary medicine program. He’s fairly unfamiliar with the Lake Geneva area but fell in love with it when he visited the Lake Geneva Animal Hospital. He has a professional interest in both orthopedics and ultrasonography. His main hobbies include hunting, trapping, fishing, kayaking, and weightlifting. He’s very excited to be here to start his veterinary medicine career!
Dr. Baker recently graduated from Kansas State University with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. She is excited to get married in November 2023 to her future husband, who is also a veterinarian (same graduating class). She is a pet mom to one dog, one cat, two turtles, one tortoise, and one bearded dragon. She has a special interest in abdominal ultrasound, small animal surgery, and even exotics. In her spare time, she enjoys exercising, going for walks, golfing, and spending time with her family. Dr. Baker is looking forward to connecting with clients and providing compassionate care to all types of patients.
Dr. Lipinski grew up in Hartselle, AL, and went on to attend Alabama A&M University for her undergraduate degree. From there, she went on to complete her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University. She has special interests in soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, ultrasound and dental procedures. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her pets, walking, working out, biking, traveling, watching football with her dad and cooking.
Dr. Carroll recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine in the Spring of 2023. He is originally from Berlin, Connecticut, but is looking forward to staying in Wisconsin to practice veterinary medicine. He is very excited to begin building client-doctor relationships and being able to work with exotic species in addition to working with cats and dogs. At home, he has a 1-year-old, 3-legged, orange tabby cat named Macaroni who loves to join Patrick on walks in his bubble backpack. He also recently adopted a 1-year-old Syrian hamster named Pepino who needed a home. Dr. Carroll is currently working on publishing a research study to demonstrate how a computer vision model can play a beneficial role in veterinary dermatology for pet owners, researchers, and clinicians.
Dr. Duncan received her bachelor’s degree in biology from the College of Charleston in 2019. She is a 2023 graduate of Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine, located in Harrogate, TN. Dr. Duncan has particular interests in diagnostic imaging, integrative medicine, emergency/urgent care, soft tissue surgery, and internal medicine. She also enjoys working with equine patients when time allows. Dr. Duncan recently relocated to Colorado Springs and is originally from North Carolina. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her dogs, Kevin and Wiggles, as well as hiking, trail running, yoga, and reading.
Dr. McGee was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. She has always had a love for animals of all shapes and sizes and turned her passion into a career. Dr. McGee attended Louisiana Tech University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in animal science. She graduated from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2023. During veterinary school, she was very involved with the local animal shelter, where she cultivated a passion for surgery as well as animal rescue, community education, and animal welfare. Dr. McGee has special interests in further training in feline medicine and dentistry. After graduation, Dr. McGee joined the Athens community with her significant other, who is also a veterinarian! Together, they have four dogs, Zeus, Reba, Marty, and Eugene, and two cats, Nova and Pogo. Dr. McGee is very excited to join our veterinary team and meet your pets!
Dr. Varkey is from Chalfont, Pennsylvania. She completed her undergraduate studies in biology at the University of the Sciences in 2019, then accomplished her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2023. Aside from dogs and cats, she is also interested in caring for your sheep, goats, pot-bellied pigs, and backyard birds. Dr. Varkey loves spending time with her family, friends, and dog, Brandi (pictured). She also enjoys reading, baking, hiking, and trying new things.
Dr. Bray is originally from West Palm Beach, FL, and went to George Washington University for her undergraduate degree. She continued on to attend Veterinary school at St. George’s University and graduated in 2023. She is Fear Free certified and has special interests in ophthalmology, dermatology, and surgery. In her free time, she volunteers at local food banks, reads books, and watches movies. Dr. Bray was a gymnast in college (at GW) and still loves to work out. She also enjoys taking her dog on hikes or to the dog park. She also likes to make 'hand-made' cards and scrapbook her favorite memories. She’s a big 'foodie' and loves trying new coffee shops or restaurants.
